Most drivers know what brake pads are - they are the
brake part that presses against a brake disc to stop the vehicle. Fewer people know what brake discs are, but they are just as important as their more well known counterpart when it comes to stopping. Why? Because they serve as the point of contact for the brake pads. Sometimes called a
brake disc, these circular metal plates are the cause of friction that converts the car's kinetic energy to thermal energy. As such, excessive heat is an issue when designing and using
brake components. Some Brembo and EBC brake rotors are ventilated or feature cross drill holes to facilitate heat dissipation. (this is Due to the constant effects of pressure and temperature, these components can become warped, scarred, cracked or corroded over time.) This will reduce the auto part's ability to grip the
pad and may result in reduced braking ability. If your steering wheel vibrates when you brake, this may be a sign that your discs need to be replaced.
